Micro : Macro
In my 2024 Typography III class, I had a project titled: Micro Macro. This project had us find a ~2000 word short story or text excerpt, and then write a story about our own life that related in some way to the theme of the text.
I decided to use the short story, 'The Sentinel' by Arthur C. Clark, and related it's themes of change and discovery to my own experience coming to college for the first time.
Because 'The Sentinel' takes place on the moon, I wanted to use the moon as a major element in my design. Each page has a slightly more angled margin in the middle, alluding to the concept of revolutions and cycles, in other words:
change.
The type treatment on each paragraph is different depending on the tone and subjects that are being written about, giving each rag a unique textural quality.
I wanted to make the layout of these pages into a book, because I feel like the subtle change in margin and rag layout will be nicely complimented by a clean-bound square page layout.
